A manual fire-water monitor is a heavy-duty firefighting device designed to discharge a powerful and controlled stream of water over a long distance. It is connected to a pressurised fire-hydrant or water-monitor pipeline and allows trained personnel to direct water towards large or high-risk fires from a safer operating position. The monitor features a flanged inlet, rotating body, operating handle and adjustable discharge nozzle. Its horizontal and vertical movement allows the operator to control the direction and elevation of the water stream according to the fire location. Depending on the approved model and nozzle arrangement, the discharge pattern may be adjusted between a straight jet and a wide spray. Fixed fire-water monitors are commonly installed in factories, warehouses, chemical plants, fuel-storage areas, tank farms, power plants, loading bays, aircraft hangars and other industrial facilities.
